Title IX also covers high school sports -- some posters seem to not know that

Title IX covers ANY academic institution receiving ANY Federal money, which included most colleges and many, many high schools. And, which most of you probably know, it covers ANY educational inequality, not just athletics (dorms, science labs, clubs, bands, shop classes, etc.).

I hope the original poster (BacktoBlue) goes to his next school board meeting and asks why the school system is breaking Federal law but not have equal funding.

2. And, I promise it was an educational correction, not a snarky one!

My HS adhered to it, but my grammar school didn't, and Title IX was in action my last few years there. I know that plenty of schools even now don't follow it. I'm aslo tired of HS and college-level jocks complaining that they had to do away with men's teams like wrestling because of this -- hey, just cut down the football and b-ball budgets and the men can keep their wrestling.

The emphasis and influence of SPORTS in high school and college is appalling to me. I believe in Rec teams and IM teams, but Big Money Sports in academics is something I'm against.

3. I know.

I'm a big fan of sports, both womens and mens. I feel that despite some problems (steroids, corruption, etc) that they are a positive influence on society and for communities.

I hope the OP brings it up to the school superintendent or the school board.

4. I played team sports all through school

And, after college, played n a rugby team until losing a tooth! I still run and do Aikido. It's been proven that girls who play sports have more self confidence and positive body image, and are less likely to be in abusive relationships.

6. Sports, especially teams,does develop

confidence, vitality, and physical strength and health. Not enough is done at an early age to get girls (and boys) involved in sports activity. (Music either but that's off topic) We have a serious obesity/diabetes epidemic and PE is an important component to that solution. I believe Title IX is an important tool to make sure girls aren't left behind (although both girls and boys need stronger coaching than their getting).

7. The benefits to girls of TEAM sports are huge. Peggy Fleming says that if ice hockey

for girls existed when she was a kid, she would have been all over that, instead, she had the atomizing experience of figure skating where your 'team mates' are actually competitors and you don't stay in the same hotel, etc. Sux.

5. The only problem is

that a lot of the money derived from sports keeps the cost of college down. I am not saying that it brings it down to a reasonable level, but if colleges did away with big money sports, you can expect the cost of education to skyrocket.

I'm already a town hall nuissance, so going to the school board won't make me liked any less...

P.S. "some posters seem to not know that" isn't snarky, but it does kind of call me out. just sayin, but thanks for the clarification and at least I'll have a law to refer to.
