Patriarchy, Religious Doctrine, and Religious Institutions
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 10:40 AM by Boojatta
There are countries that have neither a nominal legal prohibition against government establishment/maintenance of a religion nor any effective legal or social methods for opposing government actions that establish/maintain official religions or for opposing government actions that discriminate against particular religions. We could discuss the question of doctrinal/scriptural endorsement of patriarchy versus particular actions that might properly be interpreted as reinforcement of patriarchy.

In political campaigns, foreign funding can be a public relations disaster, but doesn't necessarily have any legal significance. Does foreign funding of religious institutions in America reinforce patriarchy?

Should there be a legal mechanism to monitor the status of religious institutions that receive foreign funding that ultimately can be traced back to countries where governments maintain some religion(s) and/or act against some religion(s)? Should there be restrictions on foreign funding of religious institutions that are found to be, to some legal standard, actually patriarchal?

For anyone who has questions about the train of thought that eventually produced this OP, it started with me reading the post at this link:
