February 21st, 2005...it's officially on!

On February 21st, Sea Shepherd's Capt. Paul Watson and The Farley Mowat left Bermuda for The Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada. Their goal is to bring new light and exposure to the harp seal hunt, which, over the 3 year duration, will account for the slaughter of over 1 million seals (baby and adult harp and adult hood).

Had I not a job and a rescue to run, I like to think I'd have applied to be aboard.

4. Last chance rescue

We take in the flotsam and jetsam of the dog world, mostly. If a dog has been abused or abandoned, bashed or broken, we oftentimes get a call. Any animal we take is a certain kill in an open intake shelter. We don't do "owner turn ins" but we'll help folks place their animals in new homes.

We rescue, rehab and rehome. Sometimes, we do "recovery" work...I keep boltcutters in my trunk. Yeah, I'm a lowlife terrorist according to DHS, just like Capt. Watson, though I've never scuttled an illegal vessel.

angel of mercy as far as I'm concerned! I am a volunteer with the Michigan Humane Society (unfortunately, not very active at the moment) and I marvel at our team of Animal Cops who do this work, as well. Thank you for everything that you do!! :pals:

8. Regarding the boltcutters....

I wish I'd had more people like you in my neighborhood growing up. We had a dog that lived behind us that died of heatstroke when I was younger, because it was chained to a tree.

I'm sure the dogs you free are incredibly grateful for what you do.

People like you pissed off slaveowners in the 19th century, but I'm sure the slaves were happy to be freed. I see it as the same thing.

It's a great thing you're doing...

6. I took a tour of The Farley Mowat when it was docked here in Florida

before it went to the Galapagos. Great folks in the crew. The boat is a sight to behold.
