Sometimes I want to bang my head...
Last night I was pulling the weekend amenities out of the folder we use at work. I came across one that had me scratching my head and fuming.

It seems one of our concierges took an amenity request for a bottle of sparkling cider, 4 chocolate covered strawberries and, get this, an executive fruit and cheese plate (which consists of fruit, cheeses, sausages and crackers) and wrote on it "no meat - vegan".

Because, of course, cheese is vegan.

I wrote a letter to them, the chef and the food and beverage director asking why they did not talk with the manager, supervisor (me) or someone in charge to ensure that we could not only do this, but would have ample time to procure the items needed.

Tonight I hope to have an answer. I just don't get people. You don't know what vegan is, but you'll take a request for stuff and assume we can just get it out of thin air.

(Sorry, just had to rant to people who might understand.)

1. I've never understood folks in the service (particularly involving food) industry
don't know what vegan means, and even sometimes what vegetarian means.

6. Yeah, I get things like that about being vegan...
Well do you eat cheese or anything like that?

No, no animal products.

Well what about...

No, no animal products.

People just don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around it.

"vegetarians" eat chicken. I was asking her about any dishes that I could eat as a vegetarian and she had offered me up a pasta with chicken entre. People are frickin' clueless.

On edit:

I should add that the idiots who call themselves "vegetarian" but still eat seafood help add to the confusion. I worked with someone like that and it drove me nuts everytime she would boast about being a "vegetarian". :eyes:
