Tofurkey "Cheese pizza"!
OH WOW!!

We've been diary free lately (to check for food intolerances), and just this evening my 11 year old was "so bummed" about not being able to eat cheese pizza at an upcoming party. I happened to go to the grocery and saw their new addition- so got it just to test it out.

It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! I also got the "Italian sausage" & fire-roasted veggie one, but will have that another night. At least now I can send this cheese pizza with my son to the party, so he can eat pizza along with all the other kids!

1. We tried the roasted veggie one...
It was OK. Don't get me wrong, it's a huge step forward for vegans, but the veggies were overpowering everything else (sauce and cheese) so it made it hard to enjoy the whole package.

We get the pizzas with Daiya cheese from Vegan Essentials and add our own toppings. They have a pepperoni and a sausage one now, too, so we mix it up a bit.

Either way, I commend both Vegan Essentials and Tofurky for making it possible for me to enjoy pizza again! Now if they'd just do mozzarella sticks I'd be in heaven.

3. I finally saw it in the store last weekend.
$8? Thanks, but I can make my own for around $3. I'm sure I'll try it someday, maybe if they do a BOGO or something.

4. but what kind of "cheese" is it?

5. Daiya
The brand they use is called Daiya cheese. We can get individual bags of it from Whole Foods and Outpost (local food market) and we buy it in bulk at Vegan Essentials. Pricey, yes, but so freaking good on veggie burgers.

11. I thought I'd tried that one
and it didn't seem as good.... though maybe it was all the oregano on the pizza that made the diff in taste. I don't remember about the melty part. Thanks - I'll have to get it again and try it out.

9. What Will said.
Daiya is quite good. Though 1 batch I bought (when it first came out) was off-flavor. I discarded it, figuring it had gone bad during shipping.

12. people always look at my kids weird
when they order black and/or green olive pizzas...

Usually it's half green olive and half black-olive and mushrooms.

Same look they get when they order SALAD without being asked or told...

13. People look weird at my kids, too
for all the vegetarian things they eat (most kids don't know what lentils are when my kids bring it for lunch).

I LOVE green olive and tomato pizza. Mmmmm. Mushrooms is a solid addition, too.
