I hate sweet potatoes - What do I do?

I hate sweet potatoes - What do I do?
I can't stand candied yams. Sweet Potato fries I can just stomach. But it's supposed to be one of the most nutritious vegetables out there, so how can I prepare Sweet potatoes that diminishes the "sweetness" and gets rid of the need to gag.

Maybe salt and margerine? Roasted? Tips???

1. Here's one of my fav sweet potato recipes
Sweet Potato and Chick-Pea Sauté

Recipe By : Weight Watchers Meals in Minutes Cookbook, p. 173
Serving Size : 2 Preparation Time :0:25
Categories : Low Fat Vegetables
Legumes

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 teaspoons margarine --
1 cup chopped onions
6 ounces sweet potato -- pared
-- cut in 1/2" cubes
1/2 cup chicken broth -- canned
ready to serve
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
4 ounces chickpeas, canned -- rinsed and drained
1/8 teaspoon thyme -- leaves
1/4 teaspoon lemon peel -- grated
1 dash pepper

1. In a 10-inch non-stick skillet melt margarine preference], add onions and saute over high heat, until translucent, about 1
minute.
2. Add sweet potato and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally,
for 2 minutes.
3. Add chicken broth and lemon juice and stir to combine. Reduce heat to
medium; cover and let simmer for 5 minutes.
4. Add chick-peas, thyme, lemon peel, and pepper and stir to combine; cover
and let simmer until mixture is heated through and liquid is absorbed, about
5 minutes.
Makes 2 large servings.

5. Forgot to add . . .
subsitute vegetable broth for the chicken broth, but i'm sure you all figured that out :-)

2. I'm totally losing all of my taste for sweet. I never was very big on it
anyway but lately I'm finding even frozen plain corn is too sweet.

Here's my suggestion, think I'll try it myself as a matter of fact.

add some powdered cayenne pepper and some red pepper flakes or other hot pepper flakes to some bakin' miracle or shake and bake mix. Slice those potatoes thin and shake em' up

OR

Same spices in 1 1/2 tablespoon oil and shake.

Bake till crispy.

I think the spicy would make a nice contrast to the sweet and keep them from becoming nauseous.

4. Roast them with some onions
Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into 1" pieces. Dice one large onion and mix the two together with a little bit of olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Roast at 375 F until done.

You could probably put a little cayenne pepper or chili powder on there too.

6. Boil and mash them with white potatoes
If you do about 1/2 white potatoes it shouldn't be very sweet at all.

I have a shepherd's pie recipe that uses orange mashed potatoes over a bed of curried vegetables, that might help to minimize the yam taste (although I can't imagine why anybody'd want to, I love yams.) Let me know if you'd like me to post it.
