Another iPod question

I just talked to someone at an Apple store but I don't get it. I was asking why I should pay $250 for an 8gb nano instead of $250 for a 30gb iPod. He said that flash based memory is more expensive. Fine, but size doesn't matter to me so no biggy. He then said something to me like once you start managing playlists the 30gb won't hold nearly as many songs as advertised. Why? It's just a database right? Also, wouldn't the same be true with the nano anyway?

Not a database.. It is a simple XML file. The same would be true with the Nano. You just ran into someone that should be fired.

2. If I had it to do over again...

I would've gotten a regular iPod for my first. I bought a 1st-gen 4GB nano and have to constantly swap songs out of it depending on what I feel like listening to. The next one I get will be the 80GB; that way I'll be able to fit my entire iPod library on it with some room to spare.

3. Well, my ancient 20Gig iPod

holds more songs than advertised, so will the 30Gig, or the 80Gig - assuming your musical selections are primarily under four minutes in length (most songs are) and encoded as 128kbps files.

Something tells me that this person is a holiday hire.
