1. I'm guessing this is just about the most SPECIFIC forum you could find for that at DU.
It's a pretty SLOW-MOVING forum, but some of the folks here
really know their stuff.

8. I want to download a song to use as my ringtone
The instructions (from the Apple site) say to look in my itunes folder and any song that can be used as a ringtone will have a bell in the small column next to the song title. I have probably over 1000 songs in my itunes file and NONE have this bell in the second column.

I checked and my itunes software is updated. So is my iphone.

So do you know how to use a song as a ringtone?

10. First of all, make sure you have the column activated in iTunes —
when you're in the "Music" part of your library, go to "View" and click on "View Options" at the bottom. A pop-up window will give you the options.

Remember, only songs that are purchased from iTunes will have the ringtone option; not stuff you've burned from your CDs or stuff that's acquired any other way (ahem).

Let me know if you've already done that.

11. Yes I did that - checked "view"

My library is mixed - some songs I have imported from CDs and some I have purchased from itunes. But like I said, NONE of the thousands of songs are able to be used as a ringtone.

Is there any way I can check one particular song before I buy it from itunes? To see if it is available as a ringtone? I already have the song on CD. So I wouldn't want to buy it unless it is available as a ringtone.

BTW, the song I want to use is "Let's Impeach the President" by Neil Young :)

12. I just searched in iTunes, and even though that song has no bell symbol,

it's listed as one of the top ringtones for Neil Young. Maybe iTunes is messed up right now?

I would check on my iTunes library (where about 20% of my songs are ring-toneable, last time I checked), but I'm in the office, and there's nothing on the iTunes library on this computer.

Edited to add: Just checked "John Lennon" at iTunes (comparing to what I have in my library at home), and the bell symbol shows up a lot there. (Again, when you're searching on iTunes, make sure the ringtone column is turned on.)

13. Thanks!
I am at work too and my itunes folder is on my home computer. I'll check it again when I get home. And I might PM you if that's okay. Thanks for the help!

4. If you need a more specifically-focused "Mac Question" website...
...I've had good luck asking some pretty irrelevant
and esoteric questions on the forums at http://www.everymac.com/.

I haven't been by there in a while, but I just checked and, sure enough,
they've got an iPhone Q&A section now.
