OK, I did the archive & install...

OK, I did the archive & install...
as recommended in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=233x5060#5063

My iMac is now even slower and Safari doesn't seem to be working - Firefox seems fine at least. I'm also still getting the pixalated lines across the screen, though.

So, basically booting up from the install disk and doing the archive & install did nothing positive.

I think I'm going to have to bring it in to a Mac repair shop.

1. I take it you didn't use DiskWarrior?
One last thing you could try would be to back up your files to a separate hard drive, wiping your main HD clean, and reinstalling the OS.

2. you mean instead of archiving & reinstalling
save all my files like pictures, documents, etc and then wiping the HD clean and re-installing everything>

3. I've backed up my drive and am ready to do a clean install.
I just found that my copy of Leopard was back ordered.

It's a bit drastic, but if you have a software problem, this should fix it. It won't with a hardware problem.

BTW, have you run the Apple Hardware Test? It comes on one of your install disks? Read this:
