Now this was weird
I started the computer three times and would not go beyond the blue screen.

I even tried to start wiht the OS distro.

So I remove the USB splitter and it started.

Lesson is don't have that many devices connected when you start the machine

And yes, I remembered that from my lovely vista, that will only detect a maximum number of USB devides
and after that NADA.

And I sure hope that does not repeat... it is a pain and I was about to go brave crowds at local mall to take
machine to the genius bar... there is a limit of what I can do with a new OS I'm still figuring my way thorugh

1. Is it a powered splitter? If it is, that could be the problem.
I seem to remember I had a problem with mine.

5. Have you taken advantage of the USB ports on the keyboard?

6. macbook does not have usb ports on the keyboard
but today it came online without the disk. I just got it going

I ran diagnostics on both the win and mac machine yesterday, since both were misbehaving

No virus found on either, but will run more diags on both machines

Thinking critter (the cyber type) got in

Hopefully it was just a system hiccup

7. forgot it was a macbook. Go to Applications/Utilities and
open the terminal.

Type:

periodic -daily

hit return.

When the prompt returns (it might take a few seconds)

Type :

periodic -weekly

hit return

The prompt should return quickly.

Type:

periodic -monthly

hit return.

You should have figured out how often these commands are to be run. These commands are run automatically on machines that are left on all night, but laptops are not usually on at those hours, so you have to do it yourself.

To keep from having to type all the command, after you do the daily, hit the up arrow, then replace daily with weekly. And so on

I suspect from the folks at Apple, not that I have even used mail on it. I have AOL, really don't need another one

13. Naw... I have been a Mac user since '84. (I was seven at the time)
I just really fell in love with the power of the Terminal in 2001 when I got 10.1.0. So I started reading up on the *nixes.

Part of me still misses OS 9.

14. I still have an old iMac with 9.2.2 on it. It has games my wife
can't live without, TetrisMax and Jewelbox.
