Remember our feng shui stove mirror project?
I found the picture I took back then. Finally got the camera set up on a port, here.

I found this mirror at a Gordman's discount store. It's wooden with the mirror tucked in. I thought it would get dirty behind the stove but it's doing fine.

I have to say that I was a little skeptical about the mirror making a difference and all the feng shui biz. But the minute I put it up there, it felt right. Live and keep learning!

9. Black is a good anchor for the kitchen, especially
No matter how modern we get, black is so traditional and makes me think of the old black wood stoves like my grandparents had. I like your stove, too. You've got a real serious cooking area, there!

22. One handy thing about a black stove,
It makes it easy to see when the custard is about to curdle. Seriously. It lets out a puff of steam, which I can see because of the black stove background, and I know right away to turn the burner off :)

it helped me survive the winter of '04-'05 and the depressing pain of Kerry's loss

I love your pot rack! it looks so convenient and gives the stove a "serious cooking" look :bounce:

here's the pic that started it all.......... in this thread that you started eleny! http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=236&topic_id=2646#top

6. I love your new, smooth look
And it seems like we all went with some decorative mirrors.

My pot rack isn't so cluttered now. I gave away my Teflon - so 3 pans are gone. And some others went into the new cabinet.

Funny about that other thread. I did find new spice storage and will post a pic soon.

Your cutting board with the handle is so practical. I wonder if I could attach a handle to my bamboo one and not split it? Another thing to add to the list of things to find out.

to really hit the wood

edit to add, I need to paint the frame of the mirror now...

burgundy maybe? try to match the rose of the counters? hmmmmmm

black? dark grey?? the gold really needs to go though!

8. It does!
They make trivets with a tile inset. I think that would be easy to glue a mirror to and hang in the kitchen.

10. Just make sure ;;;;;;;;;
your mirror is facing a door, not a doorway.

Otherwise, you're inviting trouble, or so says Old Yeller.

11. There are cabinets directly opposite the stove
Reminds me of the mythical figure in Puerto Rican culture. She's sweeping. If someone has the statue of her, it needs to be facing into a corner so she's sweeping trouble into the corner and not into the room.

13. Yep, that's the same principle .........
In feng shui, the mirror needs to face a door or a doorway. This serves two purposes:

1. If bad luck tries to enter, it sees its hideous reflection - not knowing it's its own visage - and runs away;

and

2. If good luck tries to enter, it sees its beautiful reflection, and enters even more happily.

Old Yeller knows all this stuff. Sometimes he scares me. . . . . . .

14. Old Yeller?
Just curious... who?

And that's an interesting bit of knowledge you shared. We just hung a large mirror opposite our front door. I'll pay close attention to our good/bad luck ratio to see if there's a correlation.

15. My husband
He's Chinese, born and raised in Hong Kong. He's affectionately known as Old Yeller, The Peril (or Peril), The Red Tide (or Tide).

That's a very good place for that mirror. Ideal. Now, if you put some running water nearby - a small fountain, or a small poodle who's not housebroken (joke) - you'll ensure your good fortune, according to Old Yeller.

17. Well, let's see
On one side of those opposite cabinets is a window to the yard and on the other there's the door to the mudroom. Looks like I might have it covered.

24. Old Yeller says
that good fortune equals prosperity. And, of course, it does.

I never argue with The Peril about stuff like this. It all makes sense.

Get that fountain, though. That's the real capper, although I don't know why.

He also has a theory about me crossing the street.

There probably won't be cookies today. We're lazy, still in our robes. It's too nice to do anything except drink coffee on the deck and watch the leaves blow around in this amazing sunlight ..........

So, continue to live in fear (thanks for that BIG laugh).

Right now, there's no place to sit. It's tomorrow's job. The thrift store is going to get a small bonanza pretty soon.
