What is your favorite cooking show?
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 04:53 PM by helnwhls
Any one else love america's test kitchen?

It is one of my favorite cooking shows.

Of course all pale compared to the divine Ms Julia Child. I have a picture of her hanging in the kitchen.

9. Pecans
I am originally from south alabama on the florida alabama line and now live in Florida. The woman does not know how to pronounce pecans.

They are not pee cans. Pee cans are what the folks put under the bed when we had outhouses and didn't want to make the trip in the dark.

Other than that I find her dialect a little exaggerated.

22. My family is from Georgia, and that's how they all say it
I guess I don't find her accent exaggerated.....I remember the first time my two uncles from Georgia came to visit: my two small daughters couldn't understand a word they said.

Funny how pronuciation varies across the South....

And I love her and her comfort food. I'm seriously thinking about getting a cookbook of hers.

I used to watch Biba Gaggiano religiously when her show was on. I can't remember if it was TLC or Discovery but she hasn't been on for quite a while. I have three of her cookbooks and have made several things from each of them.

Make it quick, make it tasty, and damn it don't concern yourself with measuring everything to the nth degree!

Most of the food *is* really revolting, which may be part of its charm. The way they hack up a live octapus is a classic gross-out - as well as the fact that they seem to eat the liver out of every single animal they feature. It's disgustingly good fun.

That's too bad that you won't be seeing it anymore, but you could sign up for The Food Network on-line newsletter. I've been getting it for a long time.

I had forgotten about Tony Bourdain. Is he still on? He used to be on Friday nights, but it seems like ages since I've seen him. I really loved his show, and got a huge kick out of him, but I guess I didn't think of him because he rarely cooks.

I used to not be able to stand Jamie Oliver, because I couldn't understand a word that came out of his mouth, but he's grown on me. I've even printed out a few of his recipes.:-)

I'm usually disappointed because he's the one who seems to be chosen least often. 60. I love Iron Chef.... More accurately, I love Morimoto.
I Can't wait til the New Iron Chef starts airing in January.... MORIMOTO!!!!!! YAY!!!! And Alton Brown is going to be on it too. Good eats is another fave. A friend and I have a deal that if we ever go to Philly to eat at Morimoto we are going to bring him a gift: Bobby Flay's Head on a pike. (neither of us like Flay all that much...) But alas, Flay is on the New Iron Chef, maybe we will have to rethink our gift? I also like Rachel Ray, she is so neat. Emeril is another fave, You have to love a cook that has his own band in the kitchen. I guess my list off Food Network would go like this....
1. Iron Chef
2. Good Eats with Alton Brown
3. Anything with Rachel Ray...(30 minute meals, $40 a day...)
4. Emeril live
5. Food 911 (Tyler Florence is Dreamy....)

I do like Roker on the Road, and All American Festivals. Am I the only one that sees the Irony in Al's show happening AFTER his gastric bypass? Paula Deen is ok, I will watch her although she isn't a fave, Her accent drives me friggin insane. Giada DiLaurentiis is another one that I could do without, I am ½ Italian, No one in my family cooks like her (I realize this could be a regional thing, but hey...)

I love America's Test Kitchen. I also like Caprial and John's Kitchen. Not really for their food, but for the semi-snarky way they treat each other. There's a loving pretense, but you know they're probably at each other's throats when the cameras aren't rolling. It makes me and my husband giggle.

72. "30-Min. Meals" and "Food 911"
I've learned so much from both of them and love both Rachael Ray and Tyler Florence.:-)

74. There are two hosts who I'll watch in **any** show
Mario Batali and Alton Brown.

I used to love Mario Eats Italy. Sure, Rooney was corny, but you got a sense of place and culture, and the recipes were good. His other show, that had three ordinary folks at a bar in his kitchen (TV set) was also good by virtue of Mario's skill, communication skills, and his recipes. And who can help but to like a guy with red clogs, red ahir, and a pony tail, huh?

Alton Brown is just plain smart and entertaining ... and never does any pretentious crap. Honest is as honest does.

76. I agree. I watch both of those shows
I get a kick out of Mario, since he is just so knowledgeable and, I agree, did communicate a sense of place. And Alton Brown is just smart and straightforward.

I also like Rachael Ray because she's quick and efficient and Tyler Florence, because he's up to any challenge, and manages to charm everyone.:-)

77. Mario is wonderful to watch
I haven't seen one show I didn't sit fascinated. And Alton is terrific, too. I've learned a lot from these guys. Two good choices, imo!
