Juicing and vegetable recipes needed
I have some juicing cookbooks, but wondered if anyone here practices juicing. I finally went up to Produce Junction yesterday and picked up a bunch of fruits and vegetables. Since my first chemo treatment almost 2 weeks ago, I have been very weak. I was sick for approximately a week after. My next treatment is Friday. If I can make myself a good easy to digest soup prior, I can sip on that and juice for the rest of my nutrition until the nausea subsides.

For anyone near the PA/DE line, Produce Junction is THE PLACE . I picked up 4 lbs of absolutely perfect banannas for 1.00. Most everything is in plastic bags selling between 1.00 - 3.00. I picked up a bag of sun dried tomatoes for 1.50. It is the Chichester Ave exit off I-95. It takes me approx 15 minutes to get there. They are open 7 days per week.

Sorry you are not feeling well, and we hope you get better real soon. An energy booster juice would combine equal parts celery, carrot, parsley and beets.

Here is a soup recipe for yucky days:

KHORESH Te KARAFS

This is an ancient recipe from the Persians, that has a curative effect on the entire system; respiratory, intestinals, broncitis, flu-colds, flu-stomach, etc. This is sour, but HEALTHY! sometimes I even make it when we're not sick.

1 4-5 pound whole chicken
4 TBSP. Safflower Oil
2 Large Onions, cut up
2 Cups chopped celery
1 big bunch of Parsley, cut up
2 Cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp. pepper
1 heaping TBSP. Cinnamon
1 heaping TBSP. Turmeric
1 tsp. salt

Rinse and pat dry the chicken. Place in pot with one of the onions, cover completely with water and the lemon juice, the oil, 1/2 of the parsley, and the spices. Bring to boil, reduce heat, cover & simmer for about 1 1/2 hours.

Remove chicken from the pot, add the other onion, the other 1/2 of the parlsey, and the celery, bring up to boil, reduce heat & cook for about twenty minutes, until celery is tender.

Make rice in a seperate pot, serve with the juice and slices of the chicken. Don't return the chicken to the pot, keep on the side.

on edit: I know this recipe sounds weird, but it is sooo good when you're feeling yucky, the recipe must contain the cinnamon and turmeric.

3. Ginger root works wonders for nausea
I thinly slice up an approx. 1 inch piece of ginger in a big mug, fill it with boiling water and when it's cool enough, sip a little bit of it and see if that helps. Or juice a little slice of ginger in with your juice drinks.

One of my basic juice favorites is, 4 or 5 carrots, 1/2 a beet, 1 celery stalk, a few sprigs of parsley. Sometimes I switch the cerery for 1/4 cucumber if I want a more cooling cleansing effect.

When you're feeling run down and tired you might give this broth a try. Make it a day before your next chemo appointment so you already have it on hand. It's a good builder upper and energy booster and it's super easy on the system to absorb and digest. Throw in a large pot add enough distilled water to cover the veggies, cover and cook at a very low temp, (I use my big roaster and set it at 160 degrees) for 4-6 hours.

25% potato peelings
25% carrot peelings and whole chopped beets
25% whole onion
25% chopped celery
4-6 garlic cloves chopped
Cayenne pepper to taste

Strain and drink the broth and throw the veggies in a compost if ya have one. Drink two or three cups a day before or after a meal or it will replace a meal if ya don't feel like eating any food. This is usually enough for about 2 days. Refrigerate left overs. I don't like it cold and warm is much more soothing so I'll heat some up in a small pot on the stove as I need it but I never reheat it in the microwave. Don't like em, don't trust em either.

Hope you kick this and get well very soon.
