Truffles?
Right now for 3 months, I'm getting free 2-day shipping from Amazon. It's a promotion. So I thought I'd go hunting for truffle items like truffle oil or the truffle butter someone mentioned in another thread.

I've never even come into sniffing distance of a truffle and need advice. I was thinking of getting the truffle butter but should I get white or black? Or maybe I should try some truffle oil to stretch the flavor. Amazon carries all sorts of truffles by the ounce and truffle products via companies like JR Mushrooms and D'Artagnan.

Help.

1. White truffle oil is delicious as a seasoning -- drizzle a little over
salads, cooked veggies, over a bowl of soup --we've even drizzled it on gazpacho. I'm no connoisseur of truffle quality but I like the Trader Joe's stuff for everyday use.

2. Google and Wiki are your friends
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truffle

I have to admit I've only had the less aromatic black truffles, most memorably in a poulet chasseur from a wonderful restaurant in Quebec's Old City.

Truffle oil hadn't occurred to me.

3. Get both truffle butters
And experiment. You'll be out 15 bucks for two of them and you'll be able to do a taste comparison.

Truffle oil is great. And if it has a small piece of truffle in it, you can top it up as you use it. Keep it in the fridge though.

6. Good advice
Thanks! I'll find a use for every bit. This is going to be an adventure, I'm sure.
