What are good snacks to serve with hot mulled wine?
I'm hosting my book club in a couple of weeks and plan to have hot mulled wine. What are a couple of good snacks to go with it? Fairly uncomplicated, please, it's a work night. Thanks!

1. Cheese and crackers tray
or some thing like spinach dip and good bread. You'll want to serve a heavy hors d'oeurve, with the mullled wine. Perhaps a cake.

It can be easy to get carried away and get a big fat hangover. Not that I've ever done that. :yoiks: ;-)

2. Spice cookies
Easy and quick to make. You dunk them in the wine.

3. Ooh, that sounds interesting...
I might try that. And, in reference to the suggestion above, good cheese and crackers are always a hit. One of the members is celiac so I like to have a choice.

4. For celiacs
Whole Foods or Wild Oats seems to have a wide selection. I'll bet they would have some type of "cracker" be it rice or corn that would go fine with dips. You can't trust most grocery store brands of corn tortilla chips not to also have some type of wheat product present.

In the spice cookie category, I make these all the time for my husband, subbing brown sugar for the white, and they are a huge hit. He asks for them all the time:

And let anyone say what they will, that Knorr's spinach dip recipe is always a hit. It may seem to some to be passe but dang! it tastes good! LOL

5. wedges of a few good cheese, some toasted nuts...
...and maybe some dried fruits and a plain cake like a brown sugar pound cake?

By the way, dates stuffed with a bit of bleu cheese are delicious, and dried apricots half-dipped in chocolate make a bit hit, too. Toasted walnuts and hazelnuts are a good accompaniment -- even a diabetic can enjoy them.

7. Baked brie on bread
my supermarket had big wheels of brie on a 2-for-1 sale. There are also recipes on the inside of the lid.
