Anybody cooking a romantic dinner for valentine's day?
Ours will be somewhat belated. Since I'm in LA and he's in Monterey, we won't see each other until Friday. But for Friday the 15th, I'm cooking butter-poached lobster (scented with vanilla bean) and roasted asparagus. I'll take some of the poaching liquid and turn into an improvised bernaise sauce, which should go well with both lobster and asparagus. Dessert will be some kind of trifle (trying to decide on what kind of fruit I'd like to use).

Appetizer will be cambozola spread on baguette slices & munched on while we cook. :loveya:

1. Well, sort of.
It's something I fix from time to time anyway so nothing as extravagant as your feast. We're having blackened ahi tuna, steamed broccoli with fresh lemon, and some kind of rice or quinoa dish yet to be decided upon.

I've already fixed his gooey dessert to last him all week so nothing new there.

Thursday will be the 11th anniversary of our very first date.

2. That sounds terrific.
I had lobster poached with vanilla bean at Picholine in NYC a few years back. That meal still haunts me... Your valentine is reallly lucky!

4. Valentine's is also our anniversary. In the 35+ years of marriage
we've had reservations that were honored twice. Once in Mexico on vacation and once when the tab came to $175 for the two of us (the days of wine and roses), so I always do dinner on that day.

This year I plan a version of chateaubriand for two using pork tenderloin instead of beef. Mushrooms and a nice Burgundy sauce. Haven't decided on the other sides yet, will probably depend on what looks good at the market.

Desert will probably be a vanilla sundae with amaretto and almond slices.

6. Not exactly a Valentines thing but I'm going to roast a leg of lamb
I've had it in the freezer and am ready to fix it. So it'll be the lamb studded with fresh rosemary & garlic, roasted potatoes and onions, probably spinach and slaw on the side. Yum!

Your lobster sounds heavenly. And I haven't had trifle in years and years. Oh boy!

7. That sounds REALLY good.
SO and I both LOVE lamb! I found a recipe, based on an egyptian dish, for lamb crusted in honey, cumin and crushed pistacchios. To die for!

8. We'll share an m&m and a phone call
m&m is our candy (and also the initials of our first names).

Sparkly will be at a conference, leaving Wednesday evening and not back till Sunday.
