OMG!!!! Hubby just showed up with a 700 Watt Wolfgang Puck
stand mixer with blender!! It's an early anniversary present! WOW !! he has been saving tips since Xmas because that's the only thing in 11 years I've said I really wanted WOW!!

It's brushed steel and came with two bowls, a whisk, flat beater and dough hook. It also has a the blender attachment and a splatter cover.

WOW :wow: here's a pic from the manufactorer

3. actually I'm out of flour!!!! ARGHHHHH
but i'm too whipped on a Friday night to go back out to the store

I was doing some reading though and think I figured out why my "scratch" cake was so awful

I'm going to pick up some cake flour and make cookies and a cake tomorrow and see it the flour with a lower gluten content makes the difference from using all purpose flour

all hubby wants is some whipped potatoes but he'll have to wait til tomorrow too since I don't feel like peeling taters tonight either

I had some bread flour and yeast so I tried to make a loaf of bread and looks like I beat it to death. The dough looks awful and it didn't rise right. I need a good tutorial on how to adjust recipes for the dough hook.

any links on using a mixer's dough hook would be greatly appreciated :D

either way, I'm pretty jazzed and will take some pics tomorrow and let you know how it goes

9. Don't Know About the WP Mixer
but the Kitchen-Aid mixer only wants you to use a #2 (out of 10) setting.

Keep the speed low and you should be okay. Also, if you have some spray-on oil, you can spritz just a little on the hook and that will help keep the dough from sticking to it.

I'm going to have to get one of those things one of these days. Now that I am reorganizing my kitchen, maybe I'll find some space for it to go.

17. Be careful not to overwhip them...
they get really gooey and gluey if you over-whip them.

21. Hey Max!! where you been? thanks for the well wishes
and yeah, he's a keeper for sure.

Usually he gets me jewelery cuz I never want anything. He was so glad I actually expressed a want LOL

And I didn't pick the Puck, he did (although he knew I was drooling over a mixer and we had seen one while shopping one day so he didn't "wing" it he bought what I had looked over very carefully on a store visit)

and I do like my pans, did you see the new pot rack?

26. Love the pot rack!
I've been working on my kitchen

You know how one thing leads to another. First the new pots, new toaster, mixer. Everything looked so nice and new and shiney. Well, it's time to take down the old wallpaper and paint! Make some new window treatments, watch some Foodnetwork shows and try some new recipes.

Then I got a brilliant idea! Hey, let's move those cabinets from the pantry that match the kitchen cabinets - 86 the table and chairs and make a kitchen island

I'm tired! lol

Enjoy your new mixer. :toast: I can smell the fresh bread already ;)

This machine looks like it knows how to cook all by itself. But I'm sure it will let you get into the act.

You're hubby gets five flour covered thumbs up. That's my highest rating! I hope you make him something really delish for your celebration.

He's such a peach. Here you were trying to decide on this or that machine when all along he was plotting and schemeing for you. I'm so glad we could share your happiness.

P.S. Edit - as someone already advised - keep the speed low. these babies will whip tar into pudding. for instance, cake mixes need to be blended for a shorter period of time. so, keep the speed low for your bread. i'm sure the instruction book will give you better details.

Happy Anniversary!

I have the kitchen aid that I got on an incredible buy years ago. I found a recipe for quick puff pastry that you can only do in a standing mixer. It is so easy & so much better than anything I've found in the store.

ps happy anniversary!

28. just some basic stuff.... I wanted to try cakes again so went to get
cake flour, but they had Duncan Hines on sale $1 a box so I did that

bought some flour for bread and some cookies

made whipped taters last night (a double batch) and will use them for shepard's (actually cottage since it's beef not lamb) pie tonight

I was so afraid of the thing over mixing I had to stand and watch it every second LOL

I'll get the hang of it......

30. my first attempt was pitiful (we could have shellaced the darn thing
and used it for decoration)

I think I'll do pizza dough first instead cuz I have some pepperoni slices to use up

today I'm making cookies that DH loves, but I rarely make because the batter is so thick it just wears me out mixing em

I should use the flat blade for thick cookie dough right?

31. Right, the one that is not the dough hook and not the whisk.
Your mixer is so powerful, you could probably drive it to work if your car breaks down, lol! No wonder you over worked the bread.
