I love culinary irony
Today I'm at the gym, on the treadmill. Next to me is a woman, probably in her 70s. The place was pretty empty. I asked if I could put one of the teevees on MSNBC. She said she wasn't watching anything in particular.

Two teevees over, Food Network is on.

Paula Dean.

She made these humungo hamburgers, cheese grits and garlic, parfaits, eggs .....

Then she puts a burger, an egg, and some bacon ...... on a DONUT. Then another dount on top as the top of a sorta of sandwich.

I lean over to the woman next to me ...... "Why are we watching THAT while we're on treadmills?????

We both got a good laugh from that.

2. OMG, you saw that, too?!?!??!?!!!
We always watch Paula during lunch, and most of her stuff sounds really good, but that was just AWFUL! We were all freaking out over it.

I remember reading something about a sandwich like this in the past, but I'd never seen one. Ugh, and I love the butter and fat, but that was just too much . . . . .

3. I've seen the
egg on the hamburger thing in restaurants since I moved south and as much as I like eggs and hamburgers, the thought of an egg on a hamburger gives my tummy the willies! Blech!

That woman really is over the top. The network must really encourage it since she's gotten a rep as the butter queen.

5. Another case.
Not only did my last ATK/CI newsletter give me the almost no-knead bread recipe you so kindly sent to me but the new one I just got has a recipe for heavy cream biscuits. Sigh. :eyes:

6. I should be losing my small gut for the spring/summer/fall months, but this is what I just made:
One of my favorite co-workers has her birthday tomorrow, and I know she loves chocolate, but I did not have a lot of time and did not want to buy a pre-made cake (may as well hand the birthday person money if you're just going to buy a store bought cake imo). So I decided to make an ice cream layer cake with some store bought ingredients and some not (all but the brownies were on sale).

Bottom layer = a full, single layer of mini oreos
2nd = a square pan of frosted brownies, frosting side down so the frosting touches the oreos and hopefully slightly softens the oreos overnight.
3rd = Ben & Jerry's chocolate fudge brownie ice cream softened then spread and dusted with cocoa
4th = a full single layer of 'uh-oh' mini oreos
5th = the second pan of brownies upside down again with some more cocoa dusted on top
6th = a thin layer of shiny ganache spread then dusted with chocolate shavings (I placed two squares of parchment on top so that I'd get a large checkered design with my chocolate shavings, and the squares without the shavings got powdered sugar.)

Hopefully my friend has a diabetic seizure :D

7. That is really creative!
I never would have thought to use ready-made ingredients that way. You friend won't be forgetting this birthday cake! WTG!!

8. It worked better than I thought it would
The mini oreos made an awesome crust and a great second layer to break the brownie boredom. The brownies were very moist but the ice cream gave it another level of moistness. The ganache just made everyone sure they had to let out a notch in their belt.
