Tell me about Greek Yogurt
I noticed yesterday that our local grocery store is now selling it. Worth a try?

:hi:

1. God Yes!
We get it at TJ's every week. I like it plain mixed with applesauce and Splenda but I'm in trouble if I don't chop up some cukes and garlic and make tziziki for the Big Guy.

It's a staple here at our house.

I use the Fat Free kind the Full Fat and low fat are really really rich.

2. I love greek yogurt!
It's got a much more creamy texture than our American version or even the Yoplait stuff does. It's much more like sour cream. And as empress notes, it's THE stuff to make Tzaziki with. :9

I also like it w/ a little honey and granola sprinkled in. I even add a dash of cinnamon. :-)

4. definitely
If you are near a Trader Joe's, try their varieties. The fig is particularly favored in my household. Also, apricot-mango, honey, and strawberry. The NO-fat varieties are honey, blueberry, and pomegranate (my favorite) -- it's unbelievably rich tasting despite being 0 fat. Also, they make an thicker, unflavored version called -- oh, I forget. That is even more tart and delicious and perfect for tzatziki and that kinda stuff. That comes in a pint.

Also, TJ has something called European-style yogurt that is a whole other entity. Unflavored, stupendous texture. That comes in about 20 oz or so.

But I hope you can find greek yogurt even if you don't have a TJ nearby.

6. best yoghurt EVER....
Get the honey flavored. Seriously. It's REALLY good stuff. My local market can't keep it in stock because it sells so fast.

7. I would like to add my emphatic YES YES YES to the chorus.

I didn't realize the pleasures of true yogurt until I traveled to the areas around Italy/Turkey/Greece. I like the plain Fage - Total brand the best (from those available in the U.S.)
In fact I think that company recently opened an American branch in the northeast somewhere.
Even the 0% fat is thick and creamy (hardly a sacrifice!), milder, thicker and less sour than American brands. And the reason it costs more is that you actually get more yogurt and less water because of the way it's processed and strained.

I enjoy just adding a light honey, fruit preserves or fresh fruit to mine. You barely need any sweetner at all because of how mild it is.

Once you try it you'll never go back.

8. Migod, YES!! Buy it, try it!
Your tummy will love you.

Whadda you wanna know? It's my first favorite kind of yogurt. Second is Russki, also good. French is not so great, but will do in a pinch. American 'yogurt' is to laugh and sneer.

helpfully,
Bright

9. It's great on spiced lamb dishes and curries, but also use it for Tzatziki sauce
Tzatziki sauce is what you put on a souvlaki wrap (or a gyro) and is usually mixed with cucumber and lemon juice and olive oil and... am I missing something? (not in the wrap itself, just in the sauce...)?

10. It is excellent
I regularly get the Honey flavored (at Trader Joes) as a treat to add to my morning granola or to spread on fruit.

But just plain straight Greek style is really excellent.

13. Greek yogurt is NORMAL yogurt. It has no pectin added, IIRC.
Whoever came up with the stupid idea of putting pectin into perfectly good yogurt should be shot. You put pectin in, it ain't yogurt anymore. It's sour milk pudding.
