"Smalean" pork chops
This story is not mine. It is from the June/July 2008 Reminisce Magazine.

Way back when, a grandma regularly sent her four year old grandson to the butcher shop, about 4 blocks away. He was often dispatched to get 'smalean' pork chops. The butcher knew exactly what he wanted and filled the order quickly every time.

In later years, the boy, now all grown up, wanted to recreate the memory of the 'smalean' pork chops for his own kids. He went to the butcher at his soopermarket and asked about them. No go. He went to another soopermarket. Same thing. Same, too, at the local specialty meat store. She he called grandma, who was still around.

She laughed. "No," she explained to him, still laughing. "Smalean is not a type or brand of meat. All I ever bought were small, lean pork chops."

1. Near where I work is a Thai restaurant
called "The Simaleans".

Might you have a small typo that is keeping you from tracking this down?

I'm not sure what the "Simaleans" is either, and I might have mistyped it as well.

2. No. The punchline is that ......
.... his grandma was wanted small, lean pork chops. The way he heard it was "smalean" pork chops.

3. I turned down a movie date once because I didn't want to see
"Dave the Dolphin." My cousin used to sing along to the song, "Follow me, I'm the Pied Piper..." only in her version it was: "Follow me, I'm the modified driver."
