I just received a White Mountain 6 qt. Ice Cream Freezer for my birthday
Made a batch of French Vanilla ice cream tonight. I can't believe the difference this freezer makes in the texture and smoothness of the ice cream.

I've been using salt and ice freezers for decades and have never achieved this consistency. The reason I believe is that the dasher has a duel function, there is a center metal rod with O shapes running down the middle, the outer part of the dasher has wooden slats, this creates the dasher being able to scrap the sides of the canister and aerate the cream where it doesn't just collect on the sides of the canister. My older model had the old fashioned dasher, except plastic. The ice cream would tend to collect on the outside of the canister which would be hard, while the inner part of the ice cream was left still very mushy.

Anyway well worth the money. It will take more ice and salt to make a batch, but that won't be a problem for me.

Just thought I would share.

:hi:

5. MagickMuffin - enjoy!
And happy birthday! I recently watched foodtv Paula Deen make home-made ice cream from snow - it looked good!

The only ice cream we see is when the Schawn's truck comes. It is very good. But it ain't home-made.

Enjoy!

:-)

Even tho it doesn't snow very often here, I have made Snow Ice Cream. However, that was back in the late 60's/70's, I don't think I would want to try and make it now with the increase in air pollution:-(

But it was always good when I did make it.

Thanks for letting us know how it went with the ice cream maker. I'm interested in learning more about this one and you've helped.

From the reviews I read about the noise, while it is noisy, it sounds kinda like a sewing machine. After we added the ice and salt we set the timer and left the room while it preformed its magick.

My hubby told me that we were suppose to unplug it after 20/25 minutes. I thought the machine would stop on its own, since that's how my other machine worked. I was skeptical but I humored him. And what do ya know, it was ready. I really liked the duel action dasher, it really helps aerate the ingredients.

I'm ready to make another batch.
