Brand new shiny red---
KitchenAid! On sale at Fred Myers for $269. Since it was on sale, I got the pasta set and the shredder/slicer.

Trying to decide between the grain mill and the food grinder as next attachment. They say no oily seeds for the grain mill, so probably the food grinder would do nut butters, correct? Anyone grind coffee with it?

5. The beater blade, whisk and dough hook were included in my deal
I'm going to get serious about scratch baking now, for sure.

8. Looks like it will make short work of cookie dough
Buying attachments separately always costs more--try online shopping around. I think I saw one for $15 somewhere.

2. You might find a blender or food processor with a hefty motor
to be a more appropriate appliance if you want to do nut and seed butters. The food grinder is mostly set up to do meat fillings for sausage and ravioli/kreplach/wonton.

The one attachment I've been lusting after for my own shiny kitchen beast is the grain mill. There really is a difference when you use exquisitely fresh whole grain flours. As soon as you crack the grain open and release the oil in the germ, it immediately starts to change. Unless you hustle it into the fridge and use it within a couple of days, you're using the same stuff you'll find in bags at the health food store, OK but stale. Wheat germ oils are especially unstable, try using wheat germ oil on your cat's food some time. The kitty will love it but the oil seems to go rancid overnight, even in the fridge!

Congratulations on your purchase. If you've never had a shiny kitchen beast before, you're going to wonder how you've managed to live without it. It's one of those things you didn't know you desperately needed until you got it.

4. Wow--great price!
I bought mine for $259--but that was back in 1999. And it only came in black or white back then. My daughter got one just like yours as a wedding gift in August. Red is her favorite color.

9. Yaaaaa for you!
I hope you love yours. And I agree with Warpy on the food processor for nut butters, I think. I say that because that's all I've every used to make peanut butter. But I do want the grain mill, too. I bought a 25 lb. bag of red wheat berries from our coop. Bought it as a hedge when the coop prez let everyone know that the national wheat reserve emptied. I didn't want a bag with mouse poop and pee in it like in the book Plenty. LOL

And don't listen to Stinky. He tried to talk me into that custom finish kit for mine, too. Men! :eyes:

:D
