1. Problem I have with this kind of thing...
is that recipes & stuff from books, magazines, newspapers and various scribblings don't automatically insert themselves into the database and absolutely I refuse to spend more time typing and scanning than cooking.

(Other than that, it seems like it could be useful)

2. I use Word
The search feature there lets me find what I'm looking for. I only keep the computer Recipe file for recipes I find online. I'm far too lazy to type up the clippings or handwritten gifts. Also, there's something nice about finding, for instance, my mother's recipe for rice pudding. In her handwriting. She's gone for quite a while now, so it's sort of like a sweet surprise visit with her, just for a moment.

But thank you. That's really nice of you.

3. I know what you mean.

I so totally understand! I have scanned in hand-written recipes like that from my relatives and have them easy to find on my computer. Easy to upload to a blog site for family to view, once I get ambitious, lol!

:hi:

4. I have a version of Mastercook but it's a few years old and I can't figure
out how to email recipes with it. And they aren't in Word. You can't cut and paste the recipes, so moving everything OUT of it is gonna be a herculean task of retyping. So I haven't done anything with it, though it's a nice storehouse for recipes and has nutrition info calculators.

6. The program I linked above has an email recipe feature, but I've never tried it

Master cook is an awesome program but too bulky for me.
I just wanted something simple to use that would store my original recipes. Cooking Aficionado works well for me.

I'm going to scrapbook a cookbook together soon. I have a bunch of my mothers handwritten recipes that I need to safeguard.

5. I was involved with one of the early cookbook programs

MicroCookbook or something like that, way back in the late 80's. I think I wrote an updated installation program for the product - don't really recall.

They shamelessly stole recipes from other programs/places. That was slightly before I got involved. Back then, though, no one was as concerned about IP (Intellectual Property) as they are now. Well, they were, but no one knew how to monitor it or contest it.

Interesting, but I can see how it'd be a royal PITA to type/retype all those frickin' recipes.

7. In my case, I'm using it a keeper of "finalized" recipes so not everything goes into it..
I have folders on my comp for recipes I want to try, and for my own ideas that I haven't tested yet.
