My Guacamole Secret's Out and It's not Pretty
We eat quite a bit of quac in our house so I sometimes make it twice a week. Nothing fancy--Just Avocados, onions and Lime juice.

Hubby came home tonight and found me in the kitchen with Green Hands. Yes, DU I mush my quac with my hands. They are always freshly washed and I haven't poisoned anyone....yet.

Anyway, he's threatening to never eat the guac again---I say--oh well his loss!

What do you mash your quac with?

2. Fork.
Guacamole is my favorite snack. Besides (white) onion and lime juice, I usually add plum tomato, jalapeno, oregano, minced garlic, and salt. BTW, how much do you usually pay for Hass avocados? I got some tonight for 2 for a dollar. Usually they around .89 cents.

3. On sale right now
They are 3 for a buck in WA state. We've been eating our hearts out!

I can normally get them at Trader Joe's for about a buck each.

Looks like I'm the only one alive though that doesn't use mushing implements. The food processor makes it too smooth even on pulse, potato mashers are too big and the fork just seems inefficient.

4. Big Fork!
The big serving fork...like you toss salads with!

I start with about a half cup of salsa verde. Crush 2 cloves of garlic into that...then put in 2 ripe avocados and smash them with my fork. Squeeze of lime too and then top it with green onion, finely diced tomatoes & crumbled cotija cheese. QUE BUENO!

5. fork
Why would hubby refuse to eat it because of your hands? What about meat loaf or bread? Those are both mixed with bare hands at my house.

7. I love guac.
No one else in my house will eat it, either. Oh well, more for me :-) I add a chopped up pickled jalapeno and a little bit of the juice, too.

I don't see a problem with hand mashing as long as you wash them first. I use a fork.

8. A fork, but I use my hands for all kinds of other smashing and mixing
Never could learn to cut in butter/shortening to the right texture with clumsy implements like knives.

9. I like my guac smooth
First I process the onions, garlic, cilantro and chilies in a mini chopper, then I incorporated the mixture into the avocados with a potato masher. Then I add lemon, salt and chopped tomatoes. I do it this way because I don't like biting into a strong piece of onion, and I find that this method incorporates the flavors really well. Yum!

11. A fork, but we don't mash too much.
Hubby doesn't like Guac, but our daughter has loved it since she was about 8 months old and first tasted it.

I don't make it often, but we have a Mexican place we go to where they bring you a bowl filled with a diced avocado, chopped cilantro, minced fresh jalapeno and garlic, chopped tomatoes, and chopped onions with a half of a lime (sometimes a whole lime cut in half) on the side and a spoon.

We used to do a rough mash with a spoon, but turns out that the wee one likes those big chunks of avocado. (Actually, I used to make it at home as a teenager and puree the stuff!) The best was when the server asked if we just wanted plain avocado for the baby because of the jalapenos and I had to explain that, no, she doesn't like plain avocado, she wants guacamole. She's only 20 months, but she does not want her guacamole too mushy, lol!

12. When My daughter was a baby
When my daughter was a baby she loved quac. Couldn't get enough of it. I remember when she was about 2 we went to our favorite Mexican restaurants that kept small carafes of salsa on the table. I turned my back on her a minute then caught her drinking salsa out of the glass. I thought the waiter was gonna faint. She loved it! Thank god it wasn't terribly hot and spicy.

Anyway she still loves salsa but doesn't eat quac anymore.

More for me!

14. Your two best kitchen tools
are your two hands. I always use my hands to mush, knead, and blend. As long as the food you're working with isn't hot, there's no reason not to get your hands in there.

18. Absolutely
Some things just can't be mixed properly without using Righty and Lefty. If her hubby doesn't like his guac done up like that, he can damn well take his chances at Taco Bell.
