1. This is the site I found
and you'll need to know the size of your bowl.

3. Let's see if we can figure out what model Kitchenaid you have
How long have you had it?

Do you know what size bowl it has (4 qt, 4.5 qa, 5 qt, 6 qt)?

Do you know what the wattage is (there might be a sticker on the back of the mixer head with a model # and/or wattage)

Does the head pull up away from the bowl or is the head stationery?

Do you have the manual handy? It would have the model # on it.

Once we get the model number figured out, it will be easy to figure out which dough hook you need.

4. it's 300 watts
Model KSM90PSBU. The head pulls away from the bowl. I'm not sure the bowl size, but it's not super big, probably 4 qts. I'll go measure & if it's any different I'll edit this.

I had no idea the model would matter. I saw 4 different dough hooks-2 burnished (whatever that means) 2 coated, 2 c-hook & 2 spiral. I was curious if I should get a c-hook, or a spiral, & should I get it burnished or coated.

5. Tilt head Kitchenaids
especially those purchased at one of the discount stores like Target or K Mart, generally have 4.5 Qt bowls.

I've used a burnished dough hook on a big Hobart mixer. I have the cheapeset Kitchenaid with a coated hook, and less seems to stick to the coating. I've kept it slick by careful cleanup.

Still, it's worth a trip to wherever you bought your mixer to ask them how big the bowl is. You might even be able to order a dough hook where you bought your mixer and have it more quickly than you can get it online.

8. The spiral only fits the larger models
I think only the standard "C" hook will fit yours.

9. I also have the cheapest kitchenaid.
I got it at one of the discount outlet stores. They had a limited selection of them for $165 & I couldn't resist even though I'm not a bread baker & really couldn't justify it. You/re right, the bowl holds 4 1/2 quarts if you fill it to the very, very top.

Funny, I have the biggest cuisinart ever, with every attachment known. That was a fine purschase since I use it constantly.

I'll go with the burnished c-hook until I hear differently. :)

6. Here's the dough hook you need
http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/product.jsp?src=STAND%20MIXER%20ACCESSORIES&categoryId=158&productId=368

All tilt head Kichenaid mixers are 4-1/2 qts. No Kitchenaid tilt head mixer was *ever* a different size.

The link is to Kitchenaid's site. I am certain you can get this for a few bucks less lots of other places.
