This sucks

This is my second one. I really like these things and use them frequently. I was prompted to post this after I just found some ancient chicken hot dogs half buried, literally, in the frost of our even more ancient basement freezer.

Sausages don't stand up well to freezing. Chicken sausages stand up even worse. The one's unearthed today were placed into our culinary time capsule on September 9, 2007. They have been thawed. They are just fine.

Chicken sausages, half buried in freezer frost, covered on top with a cardboard box that serves as a bin for the small articles that, packaged and frozen, would surely be lost in the freezer until the next defrost, sometimes years away, were unharmed.

Edible. With water still in the package. With a pleasant smell emanating from them once unsealed.

I've never seen anything last like that in a freezer.

I'm impressed.

2. The machine ...... the Foodsaver
It sucks the air out of the bags so well that the food survives far longer than it would otherwise.

8. I'm on my third one - what a great appliance!
I had an early-bird version in the 1970's. It was called a Daisy Seal A Meal. It didn't vacuum, but it sure beat other ways of freezing food. I still have that sucker somewhere in the basement and it still worked a few years ago.

Now the Foodsaver is such an improvement! I plain wore out my first one. I haven't thrown out cheese for years. Put stuff in a bag, vacuum and that's it - good and fresh in the fridge for a very long time or freeze. Honestly, this is my most favorite appliance and I used it at least once a day. Freezing leftovers for meals in a moment are my favorite ways to use this.

Bags are spendy but check EBay and Amazon for deals. There are also other bag-makers who sell similar and cheaper.

Also, containers are great for keeping non-perishables fresh. Or larger containers keep deli meat fresh for at least a month. And the tall container keeps celery, etc. good for a month. We grocery shop just once a month, so this is very handy for us.
