1. I'm not sure about it...
You'd think I'd be really excited about it but the commercials kind of creep me out. Meryl Streep just seems more Julia than the real Julia! She certainly has the voice down. I'll be interested to hear what you all think about it though.

3. Sometimes I like her; other times
she bugs the hell out of me. (see Out of Africa)

But her Julia is hilariously dead on! :D

4. Oh God....Not out of Africa
It got such great reviews when it came out. We were visiting my mother in law on cape cod and drove through pea soup thick fog to get to the theater. I swear I thought I was going to die. Got to the theater and was asleep withing 15 minutes. I never had the interest in trying to watch it again.

I really can appreciate Meryl Streep as an actress. Her performance in Sophies Choice was mind boggling (You know, I really can't stand Kevin Kline either...I wonder if this movie ruined them for me.) I'm not sure why she irks me. I'm sure she's a lovely person.

5. I was too young when I saw it...
and thought the same thing you did. I kept wondering why this snoozer won so many awards. (?!)

But I watched it again just this year and I think I can appreciate it now. I'm in a different stage of life and can relate to it a little better.

If you're really bored, you might it again some day. :)

I wonder if I should try On Golden Pond again? lol

9. Oh, man, I can't believe you -
this was EXACTLY what happened to us, minus the fog.

It was rush to get to the theater, park the car, hurry up I don't want to miss a minute of this one everyone said it was so wonderful forget the popcorn let's just get seats, and then -

the furtive sidelong glances, the restless moving in the seat, the courage to be the first one to whisper, "Is it me or does this movie really suck?"

Meryl Streep, for me, is always Meryl Streep, the same way Jane Fonda is always Jane Fonda. I just can't get past their great big personalities to see them as anyone else...............................

2. I read somewhere that Nora Ephron & Meryl Streep
bumped into each other & Meryl immediately went into her Julia impersonation. Ephron says that she never considered anyone else for the part after seeing Meryl 'do' Julia.

I can't wait either. I might even drag myself to the theater to see it instead of waiting for the DVD.

7. The Bronx cheer did it for me
Even though I know I'll find Streep annoying in the role (although she looks to be dead on), I'm going to watch this one. It looks like she captured Ms. Child's essential personality as well as that voice.

I just wonder how much I'll recognize of my own hamfisted early attempts to duplicate "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" I'll recognize.

I never poisoned anybody, but yes, a lobster did flop enough to knock the lid off the pot once.

8. I can't wait to see it!
I read "My Life in Paris" last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, but have not read "Julie & Julia"...it will be interesting to see how the two stories are joined for the movie.
