Today's projects in the kitchen.
The weekly batch of yogurt.

Molasses cookies.

Sliced up a pineapple for cottage cheese in our lunches.

Batch of Ain5 dough.

Roast chicken dinner.

Green tomato pie (now in the oven) which is for a friend.

Not much lunch prep. Every other week it's PBJ's so I get off pretty easy. Yesterday I cut up two sweet and juicy melons, and the pineapple today, but that's about it.

I wanted to get this pie made so no breakfast bread got made. Bill will eat some of the big rolls from tonight's dinner with butter and honey for breakfast, so I got off easy there, too, for a couple of days.

Ready to kick back and watch Mystery! :hi:

1. Big day for me too. Have been living on freezer stuff during the hot weather
It cooled off enough to do a batch of beef pot pies with 1.5 lbs of grassfed stewing meat. Just a regular beef stew in the crockpot with veggies. I made gravy with ham stock, and pie crust for 14 small pies. 14 are now in the freezer. Also picked some blacbberries for my yogurt flavoting and cooked them down.

Thanks to all for pie crust advice last year--finally am getting a crust that is reasonably light and not chewy at all.

3. Do you have any interest in adopting a 60 year old woman?

4. I have no problem with it, sweetie.
My husband, however, just might.

I love feeding people so I can tell anyone in this group that if you find yourself passing through this way, you are welcome at my table.

posting your recipe for Green tomato pie? I'm really curious, curious enough to try it.

6. I use this one
but I just do a vented double crust instead of the lattice and I add either walnuts or pecans to the filling. I love it, Bill will eat it but would prefer something else, usually chocolate.

7. thanks! That looks relatively easy and tasty.
I'm going to give it a shot. The addition of nuts sounds like a good plan. I'd probably like chocolate too but theMan can't eat it so... I search for other tasty treats :)

8. We had our first Daugter/Daddy canning session today
I kinda screwed up on the first run. Everyone we asked, and all I read said fill with whole tomatoes to 1 inch headspace then go. I now know you actually FILL the can rather than stack the 'maters.

We ended up with a few pints of string beans that turned out perfect and the quart jars of tomatoes with about a pint in each and 4-5 fingers of air.

Good times.. doing it again next week ;)

9. Glad you and the daughter
are having a good time. I'm not an expert canner so I'm not sure how those tomatoes will hold up with that much head room. I'd be tempted to cook them into a sauce and either freeze that or can it. Maybe someone else knows.

Canning is really not that difficult, I don't think, but it's so important that it's done the proper way in order to prevent botulism. This I do know.

Here's a good guide and it's searchable by whatever you want to can.

You never fail to amaze me, Inchie. :hi:
