Scratch biscuits made with lard. Sweet mystery of life, at last I found you....
I made biscuits the other day and instead of using butter I used lard instead. Higher, lighter and man oh man -- *drooling*

Pork fat rules!

1. Lard is the trick for biscuits, pie crusts, corn bread...
and probably a few other things, too. And good lard isn't any less healthy than most other fats we load up on in much greater quantity.

Bacon drippings can work in a pinch for some things, but I've had a problem finding leaf lard-- supermarket meatcutters never heard of it. (That's the good stuff from around the kidneys, and not hydrogenated or mixed with Crisco-like gunk.)

3. I only use lard and butter in my baking; banned shortening and margarine
from my kitchen years and years ago. Lard is without equal, and in moderation much healthier for you than trans fats.
