I get to cook what I want to eat or try :bounce:

He can eat the plate I leave him or he can make a peanut butter sandwich

I think it will be good for him to try new stuff, don't you?? ;)

I told him I was making Chicken Parmesan tonight and before he could do a heavy sigh or a suggestion, I told him, "You'll eat it and like it!" then I sweetened the pot by telling him there would be the first of the cool weather Ain5 bread to go with

Poor Mr. Ketchup  :loveya:

1. I always took the attitude that you'll eat it or fix something for yourself.
I do break down and cook the meat and potatoes meal that he prefers, but when I do it I do it for him.

And who could not love Chicken Parmesan?

Good luck with Mr. Ketchup!

3. I have my DH trained to do a couple of our basic standards
Split pea soup and chili. Also, he'll occasionally grill a couple of hamburgers, and he has a nice touch with glazed ham. Other than that, I do everything, only when making scratch meals I make a lot extra and freeze the leftovers. That way when I have a lot of meetings, I just phone home and have him thaw something out.

4. it's gotten so that chicken is a treat with us.
Back in the old days we ate a lot of ground beef and other meats. I'd buy and use a three-pound pack of ground beef per week for our family of five!

No more. The furthest I'll go is chicken or turkey. Red meat is a treat at a restaurant a few times a year for me--my husband will order it more often when we eat out because I won't buy it or cook it anymore for health and environmental reasons. Financial too! A lot of our meals are vegetarian--not unusual to go several days without even fish. But I like to make fish or chicken maybe once each per week, and at least one more meal is leftovers from them, so maybe four vegetarian and three chicken/fish dinners per week.

I like soy products by he won't touch them. Hates the idea of a "fake" sausage or burger--but I keep telling him that it's the spices, salt and fat that makes the flavor of any meat. Take those away and it's really tasteless.

5. I'm even using fish more as a flavoring
than as the main event. In other words, I'll wrap a fillet around a stuffing, make fish salads, fish tempura, or fish stir fry.

My days of eating some other creature's muscle in a slab are pretty much over.

I did a French casserole chicken last week and froze most of it. It's just too rich for me now.

6. I was reluctant to try tofu

remembering all the bland tries I had years ago...
but we learned to marinate it now and yum! no kidding!

and for sausages now we use LightLife, Smart Sausages Italian Style, Meatless

in soups, fried with onions and peppers, with spaghetti... they aren't a perfect replacement, but sometimes they're even better!
