A gadget that I'm tempted to try, please talk me down
It's the EZCracker (lol) and while I'd wish that it actually works as described, I'd bet it has various flaws. The one I can think of is that if you wanted to use it for multiple eggs (and really, I can't think of why you'd use this for only one) there would be egg shell remnants left on the device that would slip down into the bowl you're using for the eggs.

https://www.ezcracker.com/

I hate getting even the tinyest piece of eggshell in anything I make and I likewise hate having to fish out pieces that fall in. Not only that, but I find I have to wash my hands after 2-3 eggs because I keep getting goo on my hands and I don't want to transfer it to anything else I touch. So, breaking a half dozen or more eggs is annoying to me.

Will somebody get one of these and let us know if it works well?

While cracking and dumping eggs the old fashioned way will occasionally put a tiny fragment of shell into the bowl which must be fished out using the rest of the shell, it's a small thing next to having this enormous piece o crap taking up space in the kitchen and requiring washing after use..and it looks difficult to wash.

Practice, not some hunk o plastic junk, is what you need.

On edit: now this looks pretty ingenious and if I ate soft boiled eggs, I'd probably want one: http://www.eurocosm.com/application/products/clack/clack-egg-1GB.asp

2. And here I thought you were one of the best minds on DU.
This gizmo will end up on a shelf in the closet after a few uses. Just washing that thing would be a nightmare. For me, anyway.

I remove any shells the old fashioned way, small container, sharp edged spoon. Don't really get goo on myself cracking or separating eggs.

3. and how much storage space will it consume?
That would stop me, anyway.

I can crack an egg (on the counter, not the edge of the bowl or pan) and get it emptied into the recipe with one hand. It's not hard--just practice. The trick to not getting bits of shells in is to crack it just enough but not too much. But if you do get a little bit of shell it, know that what they usually do is float to the bottom of the mixture and stick to the bowl when you pour it out.

5. As far as goo on hands is concerned, a box of 500 food
handler's gloves cost very little. I use them for all poteniallly messy jobs and save much hand washing. Pays for itself in detergent, water, and hand lotion!

6. oh, just say no...

and learn to crack your eggs into a small dish first if you're having trouble...

My 6 year old grandson has been cracking eggs for us for years, it's just a matter of practice and learning to scoop out the bits with the shell.
and don't let it force you into spending money to clutter up your kitchen...:hi:

7. Oh, and I have this amazing gadget that cracks and even separates eggs for me!
"Oh, Mr. Tesha, I'm making that chocolate souffle roll that
you like so much, but I need six eggs separated..."

Works every time! ;)

8. Definitely not!
I've never seen a more superfluous gadget. Sometimes I think people invent these things just for the people who can't resist such doohickeys and they sap that initial "only $19.99!" market, recoup their costs and very little more.

Have we talked you down yet?

I did mean what I said, tho. :hi:

9. ^^^ :sighs reluctantly, knows this is all true:
but it's always good to check here first :D

No, I honestly would never purchase one of these things UNLESS I found it at a thrift store for less than a buck (and really, that's almost exclusively where all of my unitasker kitchen gadgets come from anyway).

I am a sucker for clever gadgets and am always willing to try them out, even if most of them spend the rest of their lives in drawers/boxes/garage.

Today I even had an idea for such an invention and I can already see the informercial for it! LOL, that'd be the fun part, making the commercial showing how life before said device was impossible. This might even be a good idea but I have to do more research/analysis first before I can even post anything about it.

Some TV chef explained how breaking the raw egg shell on a flat surface would work better than on the rim side of a bowl or pan.

I tried it and it really works - "gently" crack the eggshell side on a flat surface and there ya go. No shell bits.
