I really love dates, but
I love the smell of dates, the taste of dates, the texture is great too. Even the fact that people have been eating them for eons, such a sense of history there, is good.

I can't sometimes get it out of my head that they look like roaches.

:P :silly:

1. ROFL....Have you ever had a Date Shake?

One of these (I'd add a little rum!) and you'll forget all about that!

2. Switch to Medjool dates
Not only are they like huge pieces of the best candy you've ever had in your life, they also look a little more like prunes than like roaches.

You'll wonder why you ever wasted your affection on the Deglet Noor variety.

4. Where do you buy them, Warpy. I haven't seen them at Kroger.
The grocery stores around here only carry the one kind.

6. You can get Medjools at
higher end grocery stores and sometimes at farmers markets. Also at ME grocery stores, obviously if you are close to a ME neighborhood.

redneckville. There are NO Middle Eastern markets around here. There was one Indian market where I used to buy tea, but it closed. There is one small "health-food store" but their selection is very limited--no dried fruits. On the other hand, there are plenty of Hispanic grocerices and fruit stands around!

You can bet I'd be putting in orders a few times a year if I didn't live within 10 minutes of 3 health food stores and 1 international grocery! That's how good they are.

13. Yes, I keep amazon hopping! For lots of things. I've even
ordered socks thru amazon. They've got it all.

14. I hate shopping with a purple and undying passion
so I do, too. I ordered a puter gadget on sale last night and they Fed Exed it out so I just had it delivered an hour ago even when I specified slow and cheap shipping.

They have also been great about taking back the few things that arrived damaged.

Now you know they've got the best dates ever. You really are going to wonder why you ever bothered with the Deglets.

7. Health food groceries are your best bet
and most places keep them chilled in the veggie case, although they really don't need it. Ask for them if you don't see them.

You'll never go back to Deglets unless you're stuffing them for a party. You don't want to waste those good Medjools on anything but solitary and voluptuous snacking.

MONSTER roaches in Texas.

Edit to add picture of Deglet Noor (translation: Fingers of Light) Date Palm. These fruits are beautiful and don't look anything like roaches.
