Anyone ever tried spicy chocolates?
I had never heard combining chocolate with hot peppers - but I saw some on the Food Network & they looked amazing. They did a review of some places that make hot & spicy chocolate bars & truffles. I was thinking about ordering some here: www.cowgirlchocolates.com

I also was watching that new show - Good Deal with Dave Lieberman. He made Spicy Cocoa Cream for dipping strawberries. He used a pinch of cayenne pepper in the cream & it looked awesome.

Anyone ever tried this combination? Sounds like a perfect marriage of two of my very favorite things. :)

<---- with him and Juliette Binoche. Vienne, the heroine, makes chocolates with chili peppers in them.

I've been wanting to try that.

edit: I haven't found anyone who makes them around here though. I make have to experiment.

3. there's one locally
and she'll mail order: http://www.thecandylady.com/fudge.asp

If you order the chile pepper fudge, ask about chile pepper chocolates.

Her stuff is wonderful, so wonderful that I'm glad I live across town.

2. Dagoba makes a chocolatl bar with chiles
Also, nibs, nutmeg, maca and vanilla in a 74% chocolate bar. It's heavenly, though the Chai bar is insanely wonderful, too. Fortunately, it's rich enough that I don't have to eat much.....

Whole Foods and other organic shops carry Dagoba.

4. I've had the strawberries with black pepper - was good!
But here's something I've been meaning to post about. A local coffee roaster, family owned, in my area has a really great pepper blend that they call "Hunter's Blend". http://villageroaster.com/catalog.asp?itemid=172 I've seen other Hunter's Blend peppers online but none with these ingredients. Since VR gives their ingredients, it could probably be duplicated.

I got some last time I was there and it's really good. I was a little unsure because when you take a sniff of it, it has a strong aroma of the whole cloves. But when you grind it on food, the clove does not dominate. It's only a distant hint.

I think it would be terrific with the strawberries. I'm going to try this since the strawberries on stems will be available soon on big sale.

5. If you want to test the waters to see if you like spicy chocolate
try Mexican hot chocolate. Most stores carry Nestles Abuelita brand chocolate in the Mexican foods section.

If you like it, you will probably love the chile/chocolate mix. Mexican dishes do wonders with chile and chocolate.

I personally love spicy chocolate.
