Well, it's all over. Cleaned up, put away, except for the simmering bones.

They're back in the big roaster in the oven, with enough water to partially cover, tented in foil. That sounded like the easiest way to turn them into stock, and the pan had a lot of nice "fond" on the bottom.

I'm not cooking anything for anyone until Monday, save perhaps a bit of minor re-purposing of leftovers -- probably throw together something like a turkey pot pie and some soup on Sunday.

God, I'm SO tired! :boring:

Mr or Miss or Mrs Turkey (who can tell?) carcass in anticipation of the Tortilla Soup....but that's tomorrow's job!

Best successes - the Whole Foods natural turkey, cooking it upside down for the first two hours, the Pecan Pie and vanilla frozen yogurt for dessert (both home made).

Major issues/failures - None! (whew)

No disasters or even problems here, either. Definitely WAY better than the year I forgot to tend to the brussels sprouts on the stovetop, and they got to the point they were black and smoking on the bottom.

to play in our annual Turkey Bowl and gossip with relatives. I've had a three hour window of no one under foot. No mishaps yet (knock on formica) except I forgot to get eggs but one of our boarders brought me a fresh dozen so I won't have to drive into town for one egg. Zucchini bread cooling on the counter and now I need to get this bird to brown.

They're leaving around 10:00 this morning. Thankfully, they're not really big on breakfast, just have to have coffee and toast.

cooking anything last night was just not going to happen.

load right after coffee and pie are done. Then we sat and watched movies on TCM for a while, including Night at the Opera. Then we started cleaning again- I always clean and glean the turkey carcass since my husband hates touching poultry stuff. I'll save the carcass for stock and we had leftovers on Friday night and lots of leftovers for sandwiches.

No failures, although my new maple pumpkin pie with walnuts tasted too much of sweetened condensed milk for my taste. The pumpkin cheesecake pie was great as always. I bought a rosemary topiari at my favorite local specialty food store and it looked and smelled great on the table.


Whew is right. It takes 2 days to recover from sore feet and tiredness, and we even had a few cancellations for dinner! :boring:
