Any NYC parents interested in splitting babysitter...
...or somehow cooperating in securing daycare?

I need 3-day week care for my son ASAP. I'm on many waiting lists. I don't have a lot of money. Looking for solutions.

HELP!

1. You might get a response in the New York state forum.
Good luck.

2. I shared a babysitter when my son was younger

it worked out well. I just learned that Isabel is still working for my friend after almost 13 years. I hope it works out for you.

5. I found a sitter via Craigslist.
But it took me 2-3 days of trolling the ads. Most of the sitters advertising there were too expensive, but then one caught my eye (because of her location) - she was willing to work for what we could pay, and she was willing to come to our home. It was a great arrangement for a couple of months, and just as we started to have some questions about "quality of care," we had a call from my employer's day care center saying that a space was open.

{Oh, and our quality concerns were these: 1) I had suspicions that she wasn't playing with our son very much (his toys seemed untouched), and 2) my husband had suspicions she was taking him to a bar so she could watch sports on tv (we don't have a tv). She was obviously fond our our child, and he sparkled when she came in each morning, so we weren't worried about outright neglect or abuse.}

Also, the university here in town has an online job bank for students where many parents post ads looking for babysitters. It didn't work for me, but it's worked for other people I know. With so many schools and colleges in NYC, perhaps you could find a similar resource.

Good luck. I've discovered that finding somebody to trust to take care of our boy is one of the hardest things about having a child.
