Hi. My name is Mommy Dearest. I'm recovering from...
irrational happy mommy syndrome.

Why are summer vacations so damned long. pfffffffftt.

So. Anyone have great summer activity ideas to share? I've used all mine up.

1. How 'bout a storytime podcast?
http://storynory.com/

My kids like it, and I don't feel *quite* as guilty when I put it on as I do when I fire up the TV again.

I also bought a load of art supplies, covered the kitchen table with a plastic table cloth and let them go wild. Messy, but they stayed out of my hair for a few hours at a time for several days in a row.

We go to the pool. A lot. But I guess you thought of that one already ;)

The local library has a summer reading program, so both kids are signed up. We get new books every week and log them for credit from the librarian.

DD is doing a math tutorial program which she enjoys.

Summer, pfffttt.......

2. Hi Wildeyed.
I'm pooped.

I just checked out the podcast. It's wonderful and I'll turn them on to it while making breakfast tomorrow. Love it! Thanks so much.

A friend just gave me a giant 42" long roll of paper with thousands of yards (or so it seems) also. Maybe I can wrap them up in it.... I'm going set up an art place like you.

We do the library reading program/pool/music lessons. They just outgun me. Twins... meh.

I'm really lovin them now... they're asleep yeah!

How's your son sleeping? I read about the pin worms on the other thread. Is it even possible that one child has them without it spreading to the whole family?

3. Mummy project, the kids will love it!
Wrap them up in the paper, then let them run around the yard. The neighbors will question your parenting skills, but at least the kids will be tired out. :)

ds has been sleeping better since I posted. I hope he doesn't have pin worms, eeewwwww, but they are common in little kids so it wouldn't surprise me. But without further evidence that he is infected, I can't bear to research it. Sounds like more fun that head lice. :eyes:

5. Oooh, found a new project.
"365 Simple Science Experiment with Everyday Materials". Amazing how much fun little kids can have with a straw, a balloon and a cup of water. We did a bunch of the experiments form the book, then the kidlets made up a few of their own

7. My oldest is back, but the four year old is not.
He starts next week :)

Actually, we had a fun summer, but I'll be grateful to have a little more free time, too.
