7th Generation Diapers
Ok I am due with my 3rd in July. It's been over 6 years since I had a baby, and 4 since we had diapers in the house. As you could probably guess from my user name, I wasn't using cloth diapers.

This time around I AM looking into cloth diapering, but it seems kind of daunting (though so did breastfeeding and I ended up loving it). Have any of you used Seventh Generation diapers? If I go that route I would like to start hoarding now while we have the extra $$. How do they compare to regular disposable diapers? Have any of you used or know of similar brands?

1. I did a cloth diaper service with my last baby.
Wasn't that bad. I just threw the used diapers in a pail and the service picked them up at the end of the week. Cost was about the same as paper diapers.

My area is in a severe drought right now and I would think twice about the cloth just because it takes so much water to launder them. The 7th generation diapers might be a better ecological choice if you are in a dry area, too.

2. We live in Florida and this state always seems to be fighting over water
so maybe I will just use the seventh generation. Just wondering how it compares to pampers. I know there is no gel in them, which is an added bonus.

3. There's also G-diapers
They work the same as cloth but can be composted (with caution, I'd read the Humanure Handbook online if you really want to do this), or just toss and they'll decompose in the garbage.

A friend of ours uses 7th Gen diapers and likes them. We use the 7th Gen Free & Clear detergent since it lacks perfumes & dyes, along with lacking whiteners and softeners (unlike Tide etc, which keep the fabric softeners and whiteners, causing our oldest son to bust out in eczema). Perfect for baby's clothes, IMHO. Adult clothes too.

4. We use cloth diapers primarily, and 7th Gen occassionally
We use 7th Gen if we're going to be away from home for an extended period of time, and they perform perfectly fine.

BTW, we don't use a diaper service. MrsCoffee does a load of diapers every 2-3 days using Bi-O-Kleen Bac-Out and whatever oxy-clean ripoff is cheapest, then washes them again in regular detergent. Never had any sort of bacterial issue at all.

Good luck with the cloth diapering! Talk about saving crazy money, after the start-up cost, cloth was ridiculously inexpensive.

5. Putting a little vinegar in with the rinse cycle helps, too.
Line drying outside in the sunshine was great for bleaching stains and disinfecting.

The nice thing about cloth, if you have a second baby, you can use the same diapers and covers since most last through at least two babies. Talk about saving money! :)

6. probably too late to help - but I cloth diapered all of mine.
I used these type

http://www.treecitydiapers.com/store/category/1049/61/NEW-Fuzzi-Bunz/

and when my last one was little, they came out with hemp ones that are the most absorbent ever! This is not the brand, but I can't find the ones I used - they had rainbow stitching on the sides.

http://www.monkeytoediapers.com/catalog.php?item=262

they have snaps and worked AWESOME! They are pricier than the ones you pin, but I wouldn't trade them for the world. My husband attached a spray nozzle (like the one that comes wth a kitchen sink) to the back of a toilet and I would spray the poop off the diaper right into the toilet, they were practically clean when I was done. Washing them was really easy, and I only ever used a cover when we would be out of the house for a long time. When I did, I used a wool one (not hot or scratchy - even though that is hard to beleive)

I packed a plastic sack in my diaper bag for changes on the go (I still have this in my beach bag for wet bathing suits!),

and I used wash cloths instead of expensive wipes. I got a wipes=warmer for a shower gift, and would place several wash cloths in it, with water and a little Dr. Bronner's and tea tree oil to keep them fresh. I would wash these right with the diapers.

I also used to buy some cool seasonal-themed ones from a website that no longer exists unfortunately.
