Baby Garrison
I posted some of these in the lounge earlier, before I discovered this group. :)

3. There is allot to be said for only having one.
Best of both worlds. You get the joy of parenthood and still have a reasonable amount of free time. And I have two, so I know ;-)

Is he sleeping, nursing well, etc?

4. Pretty much.
Since I've gone back to work, he mostly gets my breast milk in a bottle, so he's been a little confused when I try to give him my breast. We always had a little bit of a hard time getting a good latch, anyway. But I just stay clam and we keep trying. Sometimes it takes several minutes to get a proper latch.

Also, my milk production has gone down a bit since I've gone back to work. Sometimes I can't make enough to last the whole day, so he gets a little formula, which makes him gassy and constipated.

Actually, I think I'll start a thread asking for some breast-feeding and milk production tips.

Thanks for asking!

7. do you pump at work?
I used to - but you tend to get less and less milk over time - at least I did. The formula/breast milk alternation seemed to work ok, my kid didn't seem confused. He was happy to get whichever was available.

8. Yep.
My production did go down, but it went up a little bit today. I brought a picture of him crying, and listened to him crying on my voice mail before I pumped. I got 2 more ounces than I did last time I pumped at work.

:)

9. oh the memories
of the sound of the pump as I sat in my office. That was a weird period. I was lucky I had a private office at the time: I have heard some stories about people who had to pump in less hospitable locations. Pumping is a strange thing, with all the tubes, etc. I tried all the smaller drug store ones ( none worked) and finally ordered one of the machines. What we go through for our little ones.

As for latching, I used to laugh because my son always preferred the "left" one, as opposed to the right. :)

12. My daughter had a preference for one side over the other, too.
So in addition to feeling like a truck hit me, being 15 pounds over weight and having luggage under my eyes, I got to have lopsided boobs, too. Ah, those were the days.

13. Garrison likes the left one too.
We just can't get comfortable on the right.

16. Ack! Same here
My little boy has always preferred the left side. Some days I will only offer the right side in a desperate hope of evening myself out, but somehow I am still lopsided. Please tell me they will be even again one day. :}

5. I'm mother to an only...
Health made it impossible to have another, though I would have liked to.

Trust me, he'll be just fine. My son often wishes for a brother or sister (he's 7), but I tell him that I always wished I was an only child and that most of his friends probably do too.

It's an oversimplification, and while he still wishes on occasion, he seems to sense that we always want what we can't have. Fortunately, his very best friend is an only, too, and I think that makes it much easier on both of them.

I'm sooo happy for you, R! Keep that camera handy, or, do what I did, and just treasure every moment in your mind!

BTW, we have something in common. My youngest son's (he is 4) middle name is Garrison. He is Zak Garrison. Garrison is a family name. So, I love your baby's name!

Congrats! I hope your labor and delivery went well! Congrats on a job well done, he is beautiful!

So handsome. I am so afraid I will not be able to concentrate once I go back to work. It must be difficult. Any tips on making the transition to working and being away from your little guy?

18. It's really hard.
I have about 15 pictures of him in my office. And I use his shampoo now before I go to work so I smell like him, which is helping me produce breastmilk at work. But really the only two things that keep me from losing my mind is that I love my job and that I'm really busy. If you don't have that, it's going to be much harder.

Still I cry every morning on the way to the train.

Good luck.

Do you have pictures of your little one?
