XGL Live Demo
A project called Kororaa, which I'd never noticed before, has released a LiveCD version of its distro with XGL enabled for testing purposes.

I downloaded this today and played with it for awhile. This seems to be an alpha version and has some issues. If you're wanting to do anything other than play with the XGL interface, you may have problems. (Of course, it could just be my system but I doubt it since I've never had the kinds of problems with any distro I had with this.) I couldn't get my network running, and it didn't seem to set up my sound system properly, even though feedback during the boot process seemed to indicate it had activated. This implementation also appears set not to mount any of your hard drives if that's important to you.

Really, though, the point was to test XGL, and that went fine, even though I have an ATI graphics card that doesn't usually play nice with Linux without some tweaking. I'll just say it's pretty cool as it stands, and I see it getting better as the potential of what can be done is implemented.

For those that want to try this, the ISO download is about 400megs, and it is available via torrent as well. Upon initial boot, a text file is placed on you desktop with all the mouse-button, keyboard combos needed to do various things like spin the desktop, create transparency, organize windows, etc. One thing you'll notice straight off, indicating it is working, is that when you move a window it has a wavy effect that I actually found a bit annoying, but still with a certain cool factor.

Anyway ... here's the link. Click on a mirror and hope. This was apparently slashdotted today, so some of the servers are not consistently available.
