1. Donate them...
There are loads of organisations that will accept a used computer either for recycling or for refurbishing and giving to the needy, beit local or in the third world.

2. They're too old so nobody will accept them. The only recycling places
I have found want me to pay them $35 for each monitor and CPU.

3. Call some small computer shops in your town
Small computer shops can find something of value in them. I just took in a 386 yesterday in the biggest case I have ever seen.

5. If you're not reusing the hard drives........
Bash the hell out of them with a hammer. Even if you delete files they can still be retrieved by someone who knows what they're doing.

7. When I wanted to get rid of mine
I just called the town where I live and they told me to just put them out on the curb with the rest of the stuff. So that's what I did, and they are gone !!! Yay !!!

12. put on ebay - look up shipping for the furthest point in usa from
you and put that as shipping amount - put it out there for .99 or 9.99 and see what happens - I saw old monitors sell

I currently have a 1987 luggable (ibm portable out there) two weeks ago I saw one go for 87 dollars - right now 9 people have it on their watch list but no one has put in the first bid -

I put an old proprinter too - and at the same time ago - saw that go for 24 .99 -they had put it out at least two different weeks - because I usually check the prior thirty days too

so go find out what you have and do a search - you would be surprized

the other thing as others have suggested is sell the parts. - you would want to make sure it powers up

also if you are willing to sell out of the country - as long as they are willing to pay the shipping - for some places they are happy to have them

I put my in vintage pcs -

13. do they work? if so, no matter how old they are,
there's always Freecycle. You can find the group in your area by going to www.freecycle.org. I've both given and received computer stuff (and other stuff for that matter) through Freecycle; keeps it out of the landfill.

heck, even if they don't work, someone may want them for parts/nostalgia...and they'll likely be more interested than people on eBay would since no money is involved.

16. Freecycle was going to be my suggestion, as well
I think there are more computers and parts that go through there than anything else! I gave away a monitor that needed a switch, and the guy wrote me the next day, expressing ENORMOUS appreciation! He fixed it and was putting together a system for his son.

14. I don't suppose you happen to live in the B.C. interior?
'cos I have a good friend who runs a business recycling old computers. He'd be glad to take them off your hands.
