I cleaned my laptop keyboard today!
My spacebar was sticking and I had already tried spraying with compressed air. So I googled it and found some instructions to help me, though I didn't go as far as the instructions said.

I carefully removed all the keys and couldn't believe how much dust and hair was under there! I've only had this for two years. I didn't remove all of the little plastic frames underneath the keys, though a few came off with the keys, so I had to figure out how they work. And that's good because when I put the keys back on, I didn't realize that on some of them, one part of the two-part frame had popped out. Now I knew how to fix that! :)

I put the keys back in place without looking at another keyboard (a little test for myself.) I learned to type many moons ago in high school but I realized that it's my fingers that know where the keys go! I had to pretend I was typing some words to figure out where many of them went. When I was done, I had only swapped the "M" and "N" keys, and I would have figured that out if I had checked myself with a word or two. ;)

Next time, I might use the lighter fluid and spray with Teflon lubricant spray, as recommended by the author from my google search, but for now, at least most of the dust and hair is gone!

I need to find some bald dogs! :D

1. Thanks.
I didn't know this could be done by owners.
What kind of notebook do you have?

Are these the instructions you followed?

2. That's the site!
I just didn't use the lighter fluid and Teflon spray, mainly because I didn't have any and I really wanted to get this done. But I'll follow those instructions the next time.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500.

It's really easier than I thought. Just be careful not to lose anything or use too much force. Those little plastic frames under my keys weren't easy to work with (time for the reading glasses!) but with careful examination, I figured them out! :D
