is this a battery problem?
my son's laptop (compaq) died a few months ago. when i tried to reboot, it would give me a screen with some code, then go into startup. at that point it would hit a blue screen with some words which are only up for about 2 seconds (not long enough to read them, but i did see something about hardware problem). then it crashes and reboots and goes thru the same routine.

anyone know what this could be? i've never changed the battery on this puter before. could it be the battery or something else?

help!

1. It seems like ti wouldn't reboot if it was a battery issue.
what does it do plugged in?

What O/S is it running?

when you turn it on next, hit the F12 key when it is coming up and see if it will PXE boot. If that works, I'd try reloading it from CD.

3. PXE
stands for Preboot execution Environment.

you can set up a one-time boot from CD, network, etc with it. I use it to re-image PCs a lot. You don't need a bios password (if one was set) and because it is a one time change, it reverts back to the normal boot order the next time it gets turned on.

If your PC turns off when you are in that mode, you can safetly call it a hardware problem. If not, I expect a repair or reload of the O/S will do the trick.
