Is DU screwed up or is it the latest version of Firefox 1.01 that's buggy?
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 07:42 PM by FormerRushFan
So I installed Firefox 1.01 - The "IMPORTANT Security Fix..."

Only now... I can't install ANY extensions (Y...E...S... I did the "options" thing to allow websites to install software, and added the update.mozilla.org, addons.mozilla.org, ftp.mozilla.org, etc website(s) to the list of those allowed to install software) and NOW in addition... many links right here at DU don't work (like next page of msgs, for example - about 1/2 the links on a given page)

CONFIRMED - I'm running firefox 1.0 on another computer - the links above: "Latest" and "Greatest" (still wondering if there's a difference) NEITHER work in 1.01 - BOTH work in 1.0.

Great upgrade guys!

1. I got the Update notice
and after reading in the Firefox forums I decided not to D/L the Security Fix. I read about the problems and decided that I am not to worried about spoofing so I will wait. I really like the 1.0 so I will stick to it for now.

6. Anyone worried about spoofing on firfox should get spoofstick.

http://www.corestreet.com/spoofstick/

On edit: It's an extension for firefox that reads the actual internet address of the site you are sent to.

2. Maybe it is time to try the Opera browser . . .
Sorry, I just had to say it. :spank:

I've loved Opera :loveya: for more than two and a half years and I can't help proselytizing a little bit.

5. I just loaded 1.01 as well
Everything working fine for me, including links you mentioned.

Maybe you got a bad download, you might want to download a fresh copy and try again.

7. Running 1.0.1, No Problems

Something apparently got munged during your install. Or, you could be using a theme that's not built well. I've found certain themes to be a source of a number of problems.

8. Thanks, but the problem is with an extension...
I disabled them ALL, and now it works. ONE of the extensions must be the problem, and now it will be a matter of figuring out which one...

The frustrating thing is that I thought Firefox checked an extension's compatability, disabling ones that wouldn't work, etc. but I'll start to troubleshoot and let you all know where the trouble was. thanks.

9. ADBLOCK (or one of my adblock filters) was the problem..
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 08:44 AM by FormerRushFan
I had this filter: *ads*
...which blocked out any link which included the words "threads"

thanks for you attention...

btw: never got quicktime plugin to work, but I'm still trying...

10. Glad you got it fixed ...

The second guess would have been an extension.

All Firefox does itself to check compatibility is check the config of the extension to see if the author has made it clear that this extension works with this release. Supposedly, anything compatible with 1.0 would be compatible with 1.0+, so a lot of authors released their extensions with the 1.0+ tag set. And, you see how that goes. FF is nice, but we have to remember it is still a piece of software written by humans and will contain mistakes.

As for the Quicktime plugin, I've had problems myself to the point I've given up on it. It works, but not regularly, which is annoying.
