How large may our DU avatar files be?

I cannot find this information. It think it was increased at some point.

Officially it's 3k, 48x48.

OnEdit: And you can use something like Gimp for this. I've never had a problem shrinking something to the appropriate size. If you save it as a jpg, you can just reduce the quality in steps until you hit it. The one I have now started out as a 200KB file.
