Need help/advice
I confess to the abominable crime of still having a GeoCities website.
Mine can go away with no tears from me, but a friend of mine also has one & it means a lot to her. She's 70 years old & on a fixed income. I need to find a reliable free webhost to migrate to.
Can anyone here recommend one?
Thanks!

1. A lot of ISPs
offer server space as part of their service. Who is her ISP?

2. Her ISP is
Localnet in Indiana.
Apparently they don't offer webhosting. Both my ISP & another mail server I have offer it. Oh well.

I just found out Angelfire is still kickin' out there. They've been around forever, but I forgot all about them. Not been doing much in the way of website stuff for a few years now.
I think I'll put her there. I hope this never happens again. LOL!

Thanks for answering my desperate plea! :D

3. Looks like they offer it
but at a price, starting at $6.95. http://www.localnet.com/
There's another free service, starts with a "T", but I cannot remember exactly. There also used to be "homestead".

5. Tripod?
Angelfire and Tripod are now two faces of the same company, Lycos.

4. Looks like they do
Personal Web Sites

Web Server: members.localnet.com
Home Directory: /public_html/
Your website is: http://members.localnet.com/~username

http://www.localnet.com/config.php

-------------------

If you wish to create a personal website, please log into the Account Manager* first and activate your members.localnet.com web directory. For now, LocalNet uses FTP (File Transfer Protocol) only. It allows you to transfer all kinds of files from the Internet.

8. Does she know HTML?
Localnet doesn't provide website tools like GeoCities does. It might be easier for her to compose at Angelfire and, if she wants to, copy the files to Localnet.

Or she can use something like Kompozer to create and manage her website from her desktop.
