What could be wrong with my wifi?
I have a USB wireless adapter, which connects to a TW cable modem in another room. I changed the channel setting because a neighbor starting using the one to which it was previously set. I was getting very slow speeds. Now the speeds are all over the place. It can go from 24 to 5 instantly. Or 18 to 1, etc. And then back again. Browsing and video has become a PAIN.

I ran Malwarebytes, clean. Avira, clean. Reset the modem a couple of times. Have rebooted. Many times, the adapter uses very little CPU, but times like this it is using up to 67% or so at times.

Suggestions?

2. Have you thought about your cordless phone(s)...
I had similar problems with my Linksys Wireless Router dropping connections or slowing to a grinding halt. It turned out that my cordless phone operated in the same frequency (2.4 GHZ) as the router. Changing the channel didn't help because most telephones today use "frequency hopping" across the entire range. Once I got a 900 MHZ cordless phone, problem solved. Just an idea.
