Plugins for social networking platforms

After researching a variety of social networking platforms to create a site, I've decided upon groupsite.com (formerly collectivex). Joomla is way too difficult of a language for this novice, unfortunately.

Can anyone recommend a site that has plugins that tend to work just about anywhere? I'm specifically searching for a classified ad plugin that can be customized.

I keep seeing WordPress plugins and Joomla plugins but don't know if most plugins can be used in other platforms or not.
