Articles will come in wrappers that'll unpack according to type of user license.

Can you think of anything as insubstantial as a news blurb with copy protection? Anything? DRM on books, music, movies, and games already annoys people. Playing hard to get with a couple hundred words and maybe a graphic or two takes the cost/benefit ratio into WTF-am-I-doing territory.

And it comes with a "beacon". They have a cute antenna graphic for it, doot, doot, doot. You call it "spyware", aa-oo-gah, bzzzzt, *plonk*.

AP! Forget this and buy The Web for Dummies instead. You'll come out richer in so many ways.

One day, someone will write an alternate-history version of the demise of media, and in it a cadre of individuals will have infiltrated the highest levels of the corporate media world in order to intentionally cause it to self-destruct.

The only bit that will make it unbelievable is that to do this intentionally would require intelligence. These people clearly have none.
