how do I hook up a tv & monitor to my computor? Help.
I bought myself a 19inch tv monitor to hookup to my computor so I can watch soem programs boradcast there.I thought I could just hookup the VGA cable and be done but with the facotry monitor I need to find another method. My DEll only has one connection port. There must be some way to hook it up prehapswith one of the other ports or cables.

Thanks

1. You will probably need to buy a graphics card
with 2 outlet ports on it. Do you know if your computer has a card or uses on-board (motherboard) graphics?

The kind of card you need will depend on what expansion slots you have inside your computer. Do you know the model or the specs. so we can look up the motherboard?

3. Nifty device
Haven't seen those.

I read Historic NY's post as meaning he wished to connect a TV and a monitor simultaneously to his PC. I can't see how this device makes it possible as it has one in and one out port.

4. I had a similar device that will let you watch on the TV and the monitor at the same time..
On mine the VGA connector passed through.. I couldn't find the one I had on ebay or Amazon now though.. I only bought it a couple of years ago..

5. We need more information about your hardware
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 08:12 PM by Occulus
Specifically, what we need to know to help you is what ports are on your video card.

There are several different types of video ports in use. Google the following terms:

VGA
S-video
DVI
HDMI
component video

Look in Google Images and try to find something that looks like what it is on your video card. Is there only the one VGA port? Does it have a DVI-out port? Does it have an S-video port?

The reason to look at these things is because your TV monitor (is it a TV, or is it a monitor *without* a TV tuner built in?) likely has different ways of accepting video inputs. You need to match those between the TV monitor and your PC.

Once you do that, then you need to figure out if the video driver on your PC is capable of outputting a signal to your TV monitor. Most newer systems/video cards have this capability; it depends on what hardware you're using. You need to know that before anything else.

Posting a photo of the video card on your PC would be an immense help to help us help you. ;)
