if you can help.....
I am looking for an asus laptop with 2.o or above processor, ram upgradable to about 6 (if possible) and hdmi port with win 7 professional pre installed. I have a headache from searching. As soon as i find what is possibly the ideal one only to find one particular feature is missing. I know this is almost an impossible request but if anyone knows of anything....? thanks

1. Why so much RAM?
4 should be more than enough, and most laptops aren't built to hold more than 4.
How big a hard drive do you want, how many USB ports-those are really more important than anything over 2 Gb of RAM.

2. i agree about the ram
but i do a lot of photoshop stuff. Not sure if that will be affected since win 7 uses tons of space and memory. If thats no problem 4 usb 2.o should be fine but i do want the hdmi port. thanks

3. 7 uses about half the RAM of Vista.
i upgraded my laptop to 7 from Vista-mainly because I couldn't find drivers for the audio and wireless in XP X64, which is what I wanted to put on it. With 3 apps running I was using only 730Mb RAM in 7-the same thing in Vista would have been about 1.5 Gb.

4. I agree with hobbit
Windows 7 runs so much more efficiently than Vista. I just purchased several laptops at my job for people who often use Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier, and I went with Windows 7 and 4 GB of memory. It's worked very, very well for them so far.

5. Usb 2.0 hubs run from 3.95 on ebay to powered hub for 39.xx. The powered may be
a problem for a laptop but...

I would not worry about ports on a laptop above 2 is a bonus.

Netbook are low cost but limited to 1GB due to atom processor.

Laptops have become an expendable product, they are all built in China, using internal parts from different factories. Cheap is what counts and 3 yrs of service is a given. Don't waste a dime over 400.
